Professional Military Education Program

The Marine Corps Recruit Depot/Western Recruiting Region developed this program as part of the Professional Military Education Program to enhance professional development, recognize individual achievement, stimulate intellectual thought,and build unit camaraderie.

The MCRD Museum Historical Society partners with the Depot in support of this program by providing a $300 award for each category and maintaining a perpetual plaque that is displayed at Pendleton Hall.

The Alfred M. Gray Warrior Book Review Award: Open to Marines in the grade of Sergeant andbelow; this award judges annual unit book review presentations by unit, and an individual written depot book review competition.

The Sergeant Major Leland Crawford Leadership Award: Open to all Staff-Non commissioned Officers, this award judge's quarterly leadership competition for MCRD commands, and an annual leadership paper competition.

The Lieutenant General Victor H. Krulak Tactical Excellence Award: Open to all Officers, this award judges quarterly battle study presentations for MCRD commands, and an annual written battle study presentation.
