DOCENT
PROGRAMS Guided
Recruit Education Programs - Our docents
teach Marine Corps history to recruits visiting the exhibits in
the museum on
"T-20 Day."
On the 20th day of recruit training recruits are introduced to
the Museum and provided docent-led history tours. Our docents are
combat veterans and Marine Corps history experts the combine
academic instruction with real-life experiences to bring Marine
Corps history alive for the recruits. The recruits mastery and
retention of the history presented to them is quite impressive.
One can observe the obvious pride in each Marine’s face when he subsequently
escorts his family through the Museum upon his graduation,
as this new Marine proudly relates, saga by saga, many of the great epics that
define the Corps’s glorious history.
Our docents are knowledgeable about the numerous battles
that have defined Marine Corps history, as well as the men and women who have
led the Corps through the years.
Guided Public Tour Program - In addition
to T-20 training for recruits, docent-guided tours are also
available for school groups, reunions and community organizations.
Tours of the museum are free, and can be requested through the
MCRD G-3 Operations Office at (619) 524-8753 / 8754.
