1. Eligibility: Applicant must be an active duty Marine
or sailor currently assigned to MCRD San Diego/Western Recruiting Region
or their dependent. 2. Qualification: Applicant must be a high school graduate or planning to graduate in June, and must provide proof of enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate program, or have previously attended college. 3. Award: There will be three awards given. 4. Instructions: Applicant must complete the application form and mail to deliver it by the entry deadline to: Nate Smith Memorial Scholarship, MCRD Museum Historical Society, Building 26, P. O. D. I. Salute
Program The D. I. Salute Program selection process is administered and selection is made by the Commanding Officer, Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. For information on the program, drill instructors should contact their battalion sergeant major. |
The MCRD Museum Historical Society hosts the selected drill instructor from each of the four RTR battalions and their guest at the Society's annual Globe and Anchor Salute each September. At the Salute, the drill instructors each receive a $500 U. S. Savings Bond and a year's membership in the Society. |

MCRD Professional Military Education Program The Marine Corps Recruit Depot/Western Recruiting Region developed this program as part of the Professional Military Education Program to enhance professional development, recognize individual achievement, stimulate intellectual thought, and build unit camaraderie. The MCRD Museum Historical Society partners with the Depot in support of this program by providing a $300 award for each category and maintaining a perpetual plaque that is displayed at Pendleton Hall. |
