Mission of the MCRD Museum Historical Society

…to support the MCRD San Diego Command Museum by:

Providing administrative support to the Command Museum Staff, to fulfill requirements identified by the Museum’s Director that facilitate the effective and efficient operation of the Museum.

Raising funds to support the Command Museum.

Recruiting and training volunteers to provide needed services that are beyond the budgetary and personnel constraints of the Command Museum. The volunteers will function in two main categories:
(1) docents who will guide visitors through the Command Museum and provide lectures to tell the Marine Corps story to recruits as part of their official training;
(2) volunteers dedicated to helping the Director of the Command Museum care for and account for the Museum’s property, maintenance of artifacts and material, and to assist with administrative tasks.

Promoting, through educational programs, attributes of personal responsibility, self-discipline, patriotism, attention to duty, and honor, courage, and commitment . . . principles embodied in the legacy of the United States Marine Corps.

Promoting the Society and the Command Museum by conducting marketing, advertising, and public relations functions. The Society will also provide external support to organizations, both public and private, which are committed to similar objectives.

Advising the Commanding General, MCRD/WRR on matters that will enhance the Museum’s ability to accomplish its mission.

The Command Museum portrays the legacy of the United States Marine Corps, and serves as a bridge to the civilian community.

The Command Museum also serves as an education center for:
• Marine Corps recruits attending recruit training at MCRD and their family members;
• Active duty, retired, and former Marines and their family members;
• Children of all ages; and
• The general public.
